Laterite Residence in Kannur, Kerala for Sherri Mohanan

The Residence is located in a 42 cent Farmland in Kannur, Kerala. The client's requirement was a serene Eco-conscious house, following Vastu as well as having a modern outlook with a traditional touch.

The area is 2900 sq ft Ground plus First-floor structure, having 4 Bedrooms. The residence was planned fully off-grid with Solar panels, Rainwater Harvesting and Terrace Garden as well.

The structure is a Load-Bearing structure planned with locally available Laterite blocks. Laterite is used for Load-bearing foundation, Walls, and a combination of Hourdees roof and Madras Terrace Roof. The Whole structure is half exposed and half plastered with lime.

The interiors were kept simple and elegant with half-exposed Laterite and half plastered with lime. A combination of Hardwood Flooring,Granite Flooring and Slatestone Flooring were used.

Living Room with vertical windows, Louvre Bamboo curtain, Hardwood flooring and Lime plaster. Few highlights were given with exposed laterite and Herringbone laterite patterns. Dining room with Hardwood flooring and exposed laterite highlights. The dining area has a small reading corner with storage on top. Open centre beam wooden staircase for maximising lighting.
